Tourist Attraction Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls spans the Canadian-United States International border in both the province of Ontario and the state of New York.

Niagara Falls attracts approximately 12 million tourists each year who are entranced by her majestic beauty and stand in reverence to her awesome force. The mighty 12,000-year old river is filled from the overflow of the Great Lakes: Michigan, Huron, Superior, and Erie, which make up one-fifth of our world’s fresh water supply.

The water plunges over a cliff that is recognized as the second largest falls on the globe. The water then travels over 34 miles through gorges until it reaches the fifth Great Lake, Ontario.

The land between the lakes forms a spectacular drop that is approximately the size of a 20-story building and known as the Niagara Escarpment, which forms five distinct gorges.

Throughout the years, the water split into two channels to form what is known as Goat Island. On the eastern side of Goat Island, the American Falls took shape. The Horseshoe Falls formed on the western side. The strength of the falls is more significant on the western side than the American side.

An estimated 150,000 gallons of water flow over Niagara Falls per second.
